INKJET MEDIA NOTES

DRYING

Porous media: (Smooth and Gold)
Although instant dry porous coated media is touch-dry straight out of the printer, it is recommended that prints are left to dry fully before laminating. As with other inkjet papers, it is recommended that media is left for 24 hours for consistent results.

Polymer (swellable) media: (Classic)
As with other aqueous inkjet papers, 24 hours drying time should be allowed for consistent results and before lamination to allow the print to fully dry.

IMAGE STABILITY/FADE RESISTANCE
Image stability is highly dependent on the ink in your printer. Please check printer    manufacturer for specific performance details.

IMAGE QUALITY AND CONSISTENCY
As with all porous (‘Instant’ dry) coated media, ILFORD GALERIE Smooth and Gold papers can be susceptible to 'gas fading' due to airborne pollutants. Covering the image with glass for example, will ensure that a print from a dye based printer will last for up to 10 years depending on the manufacturer's ink. Initial accelerated testing indicates that a GALERIE Smooth or Gold paper product will last in excess of 30 years using a pigment ink printer.

IMAGE QUALITY ON HIGH GLOSS AND GLOSS MEDIA
For optimum quality when using high gloss or gloss media the use of dye inks are recommended. If pigment inks are used they may lead to a matting of the surface in areas of high ink load. Some printers allow the use of gloss optimisers that can reduce this effect. ILFORD has in the design of its ICC profiles endeavoured to optimise the balance of image quality and surface gloss.

IMAGE QUALITY ON GOLD FIBRE SILK MEDIA
For optimum quality when using Gold Fibre Silk media the use of pigment inks are recommended. If dye inks are used they will produce images with reduced colour gamut. The ILFORD ICC profiles are designed to optimise the image quality achievable from both pigment and dye inks.
